Mahatma Gandhi, whose full name was Mohandas  Karamchand Gandhi, was a greate leader of the indian freedom struggle and was revered as the ‘father of the nation’ . Gandhi is famous for several reasons :

  1. Non-violence and satyagraha : Gandhi followed the principles of non- violence and satyagraha in his life. he believed that all problems could be solved only by the power of truth and non-violence. for this he fully supported and adopted satyagraha in the indian independence  movement.
  2. Khudai  Sangrah : Gandhi involved himself and his followers in the khudai sangrah, which made him more and more beloved among the general public. his honesty and simplicity made a place in the hearts of people.
  3. Social Reforms : Gandhi carried out many projects for social and economic progress and he promoted the spirit of sarvodaya rather than material superiority.
  4. Swadeshi Movement : Through the swadeshi movement, Gandhi raised public awareness against the British Empire and inspired people o became self-reliant.
  5. Universalism : Gandhi talked about universal education, universal health, and universal prosperity. this approach of  his made him a popular leader among the people.

 

For all these reasons, Mahatma Gandhi is famous as an important and influential person in indian.

Why Gandhiji Called Mahatma?

Mahatma Gandhi is Called ‘Mahatma’ because it is a title given to him for his special religious, moral and social values, his complete faith and dedication towards truth and non-violence. the word ‘Mahatma’ means  ‘Great Soul’ in  Sanskrit , Indicating the importance of one’s identity, peace, and spirituality. Gandhiji followed the principles of truth and non-violence in his life and he demonstrated his unique excellence through non-violent satyagraha in the indian freedom struggle. Due to this, he is honored as ‘Mahatma’.
